Design tips
• The first choice is materials, which will depend on personal taste and
price – PVC-u is the cheapest, then aluminium, then hardwood.
• You will also want to consider the style of property – perhaps matching the
age of a building or creating a more modern look.
• Other aesthetic considerations are around balanced sightlines and features
such as arches, Georgian or leaded effects.
• Windows can also have different types of openings – standard casement
windows are good for traditional designs, continental tilt & turn allow
bigger openings and a more contemporary design and make cleaning outside
extremely simple. We do sliding sashes in wood or PVC-u, both of which can
have spiral balances or traditional weights. Either way, we’ll set it all up
properly, fully counterbalanced.
• Handle colour and style are
mainly down to personal choice and include white, gold, silver (satin or
chrome) and black.
• Another concern is to meet regulations, which exist around the number and
size of openings for fire & ventilation needs. ABCO can advise you on all
of these.
If you are doing your
own survey:
• We can give information on maximum recommended sizes for each type of
window.
• When measuring up for a quotation, you need to measure to the outside of
the frame and leave a tolerance between the frame & brickwork. Contact us for detailed advice.
